Action C.1
The capture and relocation of nuclei from the Majella and Gran Sasso for the new colonies
Carrying out the capture of at least 20 specimens from the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park and Majella National Park, to be then released in the Monti Sibillini National Park (action C.4) and in the Sirente Velino Regional Park (action C.5), avoiding, at the same time, any negative repercussions on the native herds. The 3 main activities in the action are:
- individuating the target animals and pre-capture check (data from the beginning of 2002 from the previous LIFE highlighted how the evolution of the new colonies in the Majella and the Gran Sasso Laga is very dynamic, concerning both the area use and the demographic features of the herds);
- carrying out the capture using staff, including a veterinarian, a biologist, other highly specialized professional and technical figures, using methods limiting the use of physical or pharmacological factors to minimize stress and injury to the animals;
- post-removal monitoring of the nucleus and planning of the follow-up activities (the aim is to bring to light any possible and significant effects resulting from the capture and the removal of individual specimens from the rest of the herd. The working plan is the same as that foreseen for action A.5).
